Week 1 Crossfit: Accomplished!

It is official. I have completed the first week of Crossfit and am completely in love with this style of workout. Initially, after the first 2 days, I thought that 4 days of training would be to much for a Crossfit “newbie” so I took Wednesday off since my hamstrings and inner thighs were on fire! I slept in and awoke feeling guilty and missed my “box” (the gym for Crossfitters for those who are unfamiliar). My legs did end up feeling much better by the end of the day and I was grateful for that.

The week ended on a high none the less. I accomplished handstand push ups (which I thought would kill me) and my overall soreness is diminishing. I am not sure if it is the scale of the workout or the protein I am taking after my workout these last 2 days. Next week will be the test. After much research and debating and taste testing, I settled on the BSN Syntha-6 Isolate with the IgY Recovery protein mixed together and shaken with water. Initially, I thought that the protein mixed with water would be gross. However, it is quite tasty! Its not heavy, the calories are reduced, and it is much easier to drink within the time required post workout. I may do a review on these after I try out some of the other flavors and I have had time to use it over a longer period of time.

A couple of days ago I posted my starting photos. With this, I should have posted my stats as well. So, let me do this now before I get to far in and forget:

Starting Stats as of March 18, 2013

  • Weight: 136
  • Bust: 34″
  • Natural Waist: 27.5″
  • Lower Waist: 33″
  • Hips: 37″

Not to happy with these, but this is the reason why I am on my journey to the new me! I will post an update once a month with pictures. Other than that, I do need to fit more running into my schedule. This weekend, on Sunday, I have a 5k road race. It has been a goal of mine lately to run at least one 5k every month. This is in preparation for the 10k obstacle course mud run that I am doing in May called the Merrell Down and Dirty at the Miami Zoo. This brings me to another new development that occurred this week!

I use to have this list that I wanted to accomplish by time I was 30. Well, that age that seemed so far away is right around the corner in September! Yes, I am turning the big 3-0 this year and it seems like just yesterday that I was graduating high school. But anyways, that is a different story! I have always wanted to run a half marathon and wanted to do it before I turn 30. Well, due to time and my past laziness and lack of support, I never did it and it was put aside. Blah, blah, blah. . . So I did it. . . I registered for the Women’s Half Marathon in St. Pete, Fl this November 24. Yes, it is after my birthday, but I like that it is all women and in my home town. I registered before so that should count right!? Right!

In any case, I have to finish my 10k training and then move on to my half marathon training. I have about 170 days before the official start date of training for that though. Plenty of time to buff up and lean out!

First step: New Me via Crossfit

So it has been a bit since my first and last post, but I am back! I decided to undertake the torture of Crossfit in search of the strength and image that I am trying to achieve. My friend, let us call her Claire, first asked me to do this with her since we both signed up for a 10k (my first) mud obstacle course run in a couple of months. This was her way of preparing for it! Crossfit has always been a intrigue for me but I never could find the time between my son and daughter, school, a full time job, and a boyfriend. However, my amazingly wonderful boyfriend has been a saving grace. He offered to watch the kids and get them to school in the mornings so that I can go to a Crossfit class at 6am during the week. So, this means as of this last Monday, we are making a commitment to 4 days a week of Crossfit insanity!

What seemed like a doable feat after the Saturday we had our free class, we quickly realized that while we can do 4 days a week, we may need to break them up with a rest day in the middle. We were so sore after Monday and Tuesday classes! I understand that this type of training tends to leave you sore each day, but neither of us could walk all that well. It does not help that we are both competitive and tend to push hard every time we are there. So we took a much needed rest day this morning and will be back at it tomorrow.

With this new workout, also comes the before and after pictures! While I may be crazy to want to post this to the world, I convince myself that many will never see this, and it will hold me more accountable to my results. So, without further waiting . . .

Okay. I know I am not fat, but, I have a mommy pouch (nicely hidden by the large waistband of my shorts!) and I could use some toning. Running has been a “drug” of choice since the divorce and it has served me well. However, I want to be strong too. My ex husband was very vocal about me never developing muscle tone because he did not like it. So the new me, will be the me I want to see! I will need to up date you later with the beginning measurements so you can see a truly in full transformation. These will come tomorrow. Good night!

A little belated, but . . .

. . . here goes nothing! So it’s been a year of ends and beginnings, ups and downs, new friends found and old lost. I never thought that I would be that 50% statistic. I never thought my path would lead to divorce in the end, but it did. I never thought I would become a single parent, but I did. I never thought I would completely lose a relationship with a sister and a mother. . . but I did. Despite everything, I find myself making new friends, finding new family, and perhaps the worlds greatest man. After all is said and done, I do not regret a single day of the past because without it, my present would not be the same.

That is what this blog will be. It will become a tribute to my phrase, my mantra, “Live without regret”, no matter what. You have to learn from mistakes to become a better person since no one is perfect and that is what I am doing. I am improving my life through faith, friends, exercise, and living out loud.

It’s funny how life seems to come full circle. My childhood seems to have circled back around and I am in the same life style (fun wise) as I was back then. I have re-found a love for fishing and that is all thanks to “a great guy” named Brent. Yes! A great guy as his siblings jokingly dub him! All in all, it is true. He is helping me on my path to me and doing an excellent job.

This year, I turn 30. The big 3-0. A completely new chapter in my life and I want to go into it the best way I can. Call it a pre mid life crisis if you will, but I am starting anew. This means a new adventure in taking on Crossfit and marking a few things off my bucket list before September. Here’s to me!
